Women In History - When Women Started Wearing Pants

Some fascinating historical facts (gathered and written by blogger 'gholea') of women who scandalized society with the introduction of pants into their functional wardrobe in the 1800's for industrial work. "Trousers for women in western countries did not become fashion items until the later 20th century, women began wearing men's trousers (suitably altered) for outdoor work a hundred years earlier." Shoutout to the gutsy "Wigan pit brow girls who scandalized Victorian society by wearing trousers for their dangerous work in the coal mines. They wore skirts over their trousers and rolled them up to their waist to keep them out of the way." It's worth the read: http://www.historyandwomen.com/2012/04/woman-and-pants.html
